The Dr. Frederic "Pete" Kullenberg Endowment was established in memory of Frederic Wayne Kullenberg, AKA "Pete", who was born in Los Angeles, CA on August 24, 1936. He married Effie Adele Lowary in December of 1959 in Pullman, WA. Together, they had three children, Bradley James, Leanne Rene and Gayle Marie.

Dr. Kullenberg graduated from Capuchino High School in San Bruno, CA and then attended California State Polytechnic College in San Luis Obispo, studying Animal Husbandry. In 1960 he graduated from Washington State University with his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree.

Following graduation he practiced in Burlingame, CA and Vancouver, WA. During this time he also served short periods of government service in Washington and Oregon as a Food Safety Inspector and Animal Disease Control Officer.

By late 1963 he had decided to direct his professional career into industrial veterinary medicine and began working for Elanco, Inc. as a Clinical Evaluation Veterinarian where he conducted clinical testing on new animal biologics and pharmaceuticals.

In 1965 he worked under the Veterinary Medical Director at Armour-Baldwin Laboratories where he was responsible for FDA liaison on pending applications and technical marketing support.

In 1967 Dr. Kullenberg began Tevcon Industries, Inc. He was the co-founder, President and DEO f this startup, which sold to International Multifoods in 1975.

Following the sale of Tevcon in 1978, he was retained by a group of15 distributors of ethical veterinary products serving the US market (VEDCO, Inc.), where he created a buying cooperative to obtain the lowest possible pricing and insure product supply. During this time, he also acted as a business and technical consultant to a small mid-west veterinary pharmaceutical company, Vet-A-Mix Laboratories in Shenandoah, IA.

In 1979 he co-founded another company, Modern Veterinary Products (MVP). The company developed, tested and marketed animal vaccines for intrastate sales through selected distributors. While there he led the development of an oil-based adjuvant for a swine Hemophilus vaccine and a license agreement was negotiated with Schering and Co. for the nationwide sales of this one-of-a-kind vaccine. His interest in MVP was purchased by the other two partners in 1984.

Beginning in 1984 until his death in 2009, he was involved with Hydronics, Inc. This is a company he formed in the late 1970's, which provided a platform for him to offer periodic consulting services to other businesses and focus on the development of several ideas for products developed over years of involvement in industrial veterinary medicine. In 1992 Hydronics, Inc. obtained a patent for a unique lecithin-based biological adjuvant applicable for human and animal use. A trademark was also obtained and the adjuvant is commercially known as "Amphigen". It was licensed to Norden Laboratories, Inc. for exclusive worldwide use in animal vaccines. There are many successor companies to Norden, but currently Pfizer continues to successfully market Amphigen.
