Betty Georgian Harp was born March 20, 1926, and raised in Butte, Montana. She attended the Grant School and graduated from Butte High School. Betty retired from Montana Power Company after working in the data entry department for 39 years. She became supervisor of that department in 1974.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Beatrice Harp, father, George Harp, sister, Phyllis Marinsky and stepfather, Edward Tony Hoban.

Betty is survived by a brother, Bill Harp and his wife, Vickie. She is also survived by nephews, nieces, a stepsister, Donna Gauthier and grand nephews and nieces.

She enjoyed making crafts and art and loved her dogs, “Mollie”, “Minnie”, “Mitzi”, “Maggie”, “Lady” and “Jiggs”. Her love for animals led her to become a community philanthropist for unwanted, homeless and stray pets. She often gave anonymous donations to help save the lives of pets belonging to the poor and elderly.

In addition to setting up a scholarship fund at the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Betty also set up the “Montana Betty Harp Animal Trust Fund”. This fund was established to pay for essential neutering, spaying, shots and general medical care of animals owned (or to be owned) by a senior citizen or person in need. The trustee of this fund is her veterinarian, Dr. Edward Peretti (WSU DVM ’86), at the Animal Hospital of Butte. Dr. Peretti was also instrumental in steering her interest to the College of Veterinary Medicine.

She will be dearly missed by her friends–both human and animal.

Distributions from this fund are used to award one or more scholarships to Doctor of Veterinary
